Dating pewter marks
I picked up a ornimental tray at a thrift store, with stickers on it " lead free Mundo de Pewter sin plombo" and a " made in mexico".
And I waited.......waited.......waited........wasn't melting. I don't have a casting thermometer to check what the temp must have been, but it was WAY higher that the other pewter i've melted.
The Doulton marks are many and varied but most follow the same theme.
Dating Royal Doulton products from their Doulton marks means you sometimes have to check very carefully.
Anybody else found anything marked like this or know what it might have been ?
I came across a large plate at a yard sale the other day stamped "Mexican Pewter".



It was a soft metal, but had a shine to it like dried solder.
There were a number of regiments from Virginia with those initials unfortunately. Dressed in a grey jacket trimmed with black cloth shoulder tabs.
